Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has analysed the situation in case Gautam Gambhir assumed the role as Indian team Head Coach. Gambhir is the frontrunner to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket Team. Moreover, is already reported that the BCCI is close to potentially appointing Gambhir as the head coach.

While BCCI had rolled out a google form in general public and welcomed entries, it was reported that they approached Gambhir on their own, to lure the KKR mentor to take up the job.

Should the Delhi-born cricketer be chosen fit for the job, he will work closely with big names in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has spoken to media outlet RevSportz about the potential appointment of Gautam Gambhir as Team India head coach.

What did Sourav Ganguly say about Gautam Gambhir being the potential India Head Coach?

Sourav Ganguly labelled Gautam Gambhir as 'passionate, honest, and a very good candidate'. The former BCCI president talked at length about the reasoning behind Gambhir's appointment, should he be the chosen one for the job.

Gambhir's demand and suitability would have certainly increased after he led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to IPL 2024 glory. That being said, Ganguly reminded Gambhir about the stark difference in coaching an IPL franchise, to that of the Indian team.

He is passionate, he is honest...he is a very good candidate. There is indeed a difference between coaching or mentoring a franchise, and coaching an international team, that too a high-profile team like India. But I am sure Gautam will know it and is aware of it, Sourav Ganguly told RevSportz.

Ganguly also deep down into the fact that Gambhir has it in him, to deal with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Two among the many big names in the Indian dressing room, but Gambhir would be fazed by none.

He will know how to deal with stars like Virat and Rohit, and will surely adapt himself to the culture of the change room. It is not just about pushing your own thoughts. He will, I am sure, think and carry the change room with himself, Ganguly concluded.

When will BCCI announce the next Head Coach of the Indian team?

The deadline for submitting the applications for the Head Coach role via Google Forms, is long gone on May 27. Rahul Dravid's contract as Head Coach runs out after the T20 World Cup 2024.

However, it is now reported by PTI that the new head coach will not be announced right after the T20 World Cup. The announcement will be delayed, as BCCI have decided to buy some time for themselves, before making a huge decision.

That being said, Gautam Gambhir is currently leading the race to land the job of head coach, as per reports.
