KL Rahul, captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has undergone successful surgery for a thigh injury and is "determined to return to my best" as quickly as possible.

During an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) he limped off the ground with an injury that he picked up during the second over of the game.

The LSG skipper ran the length of the field to try and stop a boundary hit by RCB opener Faf du Plessis. Unfortunately, he pulled up midway and went down on the ground in a lot of pain. As Rahul left the ground, it seemed like a serious quadriceps injury.

Later in that match, although he did come to bat at number 11, the batsman couldn't run and was clearly in pain.

What did Rahul say about his surgery?

After undergoing surgery, Rahul shared an update on his social media handles.

"Hi everyone, I just got done with my surgery. It was successful," Rahul wrote.

"A big thank you to the doctors and medical staff for making sure I was comfortable and everything went smoothly," the LSG skipper added.

"I am officially on the road to recovery now. I am determined to get back to my best and get back on the field. Onwards and upwards," he said.

The LSG skipper's treatment will be done by the medical team of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

When will KL Rahul be back from injury?

As of now very little is known about Rahul's return. Ishan Kishan, who is yet to earn a Test cap, has been named as a replacement for Rahul in India's squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval in June.
