Two of the Indian Premier League's most expensive players, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, went head to head on Saturday as Kolkata Knight Riders took on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in a marquee clash.

It was a brilliant game of cricket as the two sides produced the thrills and spills. Batting first, KKR posted 208 runs on the board, courtesy of a Phil Salt half-century at the top of the order and an Andre Russell blitzkrieg at the fag end of the innings, scoring 64 off 25.

SRH openers Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma got the team off to a great start. However, they failed to convert those starts into match-winning contributions. The middle-order didn't come up with something special, either.

Heinrich Klaasen, who was amazing for SRH in IPL 2023, stood till the end and brought the equation down from 76 runs in 24 balls to 7 runs off the last 5 balls. However, Harshit Rana picked up the wickets of Shahbaz Ahmed and Klaasen to help KKR win by 4 runs. SRH will feel absolutely heartbroken to have lost the game after they needed just 7 off 5 balls. What a game at the Eden Gardens, though!

IPL 2024: CSK vs RCB Live Updates

11:23 PM: KKR WIN A NAIL-BITING AFFAIR BY 4 RUNS! Take a bow, Harshit Rana. What a final over from the youngster. Needing 13 from 6 balls, Klaasen hit the bowler for a six off the first ball, but he made an incredible comeback to sent the wicketkeeper-batsman back to the pavilion. He also took the wicket of Shahbaz Ahmed. A fantastic match and KKR have registered their first win. SRH would feel gutted.

11:14 PM: FIFTY FOR HEINRICH KLAASEN!!! This has been a blinder of an innings from the South African, who has brought SRH right back into the game. Scintillating innings under pressure from Klaasen, and his fifty has come in just 25 balls, of which seven have gone for six. SRH 189-6 (18.4)

10:57 PM: SRH 133-4 (16) - Just 34 runs have come in the last six overs at the expense of two wickets, and one of them was a 13-run over off Varun Chakaravarthy. The spinners, led by Sunil Narine, squeezed the life out of the SRH middle order. They now need 76 runs in four overs, and KKR will feel that they have the game in the bag.

10:25 PM: SRH 99-2 (10) - The wicket of Abhishek Sharma has put the brakes on SRH's progress somewhat. Rahul Tripathi has looked a bit tentative, but Aiden Markram is looking ominous. The South African will have to preserve his wicket and stay till the end if SRH are to chase this total down. They need 110 in the final 10 overs.

10:04 PM: END OF POWERPLAY, SRH 65-1 (6) - A fantastic first six overs for the Sunrisers as they race to 65-1, courtesy of a 32 from Mayank Agarwal. While Agarwal was dismissed in the final over of the PP by Harshit Rana, Abhishek Sharma has switched gears to a great effect following a slow start. SRH still need 144 runs in 14 overs at 10.29 runs per over. Good start, but still a long way to go.

9:32 PM: The second innings is underway! Mayank Agarwal will open the innings with Abhishek Sharma, who comes in as an Impact Sub for T Natarajan. Record signing Mitchell Starc to open the bowling for KKR.

9:19 PM: ANDRE RUSSELL, TAKE A BOW! That was as good a death overs onslaught as any, and Russell went absolutely nuts to help KKR go past 200. 85 runs came off the last five overs after as Russell stays unbeaten on 64 off 25. Phil Salt, who was a last-minute addition as a replacement of Jason Roy, got 54 and held one end. SRH will feel they have conceded at least 30 runs more than they would have expected. Stay tuned for the second innings!

8:55 PM: KKR 141-6 after 16 overs. Phil Salt's half-century and a quickfire innings by Ramandeep Singh has kept KKR going. The Shreyas Iyer-led side would hope for some fireworks in the final four overs with Andre Russell and Rinku Singh on the pitch.

8:25 PM: KKR 81-4 after 10 overs. Phil Salt holding the fort for the Knight Riders.

8 PM: KKR 42-3 after 5.2 overs. Tremendous bowling display by Natarajan as the left-arm fast bowler cleared up the KKR top order.

7:30 PM: We are underway at Eden Gardens!

7 PM: TOSS - Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The Knights are in the house!
