Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed as the assistant coach for England for the 2024 T20 World Cup, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced.

In addition to acting as the assistant coach, Pollard will also serve as an expert for the team, given his familiarity with the conditions for next year's T20 World Cup, which will take place in the Caribbean and the USA.

Although the 36-year-old has retired from international cricket, he is still active in the lower franchise leagues in the world. He serves as the captain of MI Emirates in UAE's International League T20 (ILT20) and MI New York in USA's Major League Cricket (MLC).

He stopped playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, serving as Mumbai Indians' (MI) batting coach since then.

What next for England?

England had recently toured West Indies for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series, with the hosts winning the ODI leg 2-1 and the T20I leg 3-2.

England's next international assignment will be the tour of India, where they will play the top-ranked Test side in a five-match Test series.
