England middle-order batsman Jonny Bairstow was subject to excessive trolling following the conclusion of the fifth Test between India and England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

The hosts put the icing on the cake after winning the final Test by an innings and 64 runs, having already pocketed the series in the previous Test in Ranchi.

Bet here on India vs England and other cricket matches!

India won the series 4-1, becoming the first team in 112 years to win a Test series with that scoreline after losing the first Test. Indeed, India won all four Tests with some stellar performances after England shocked them in Hyderabad to win by 28 runs.

While England brought inexperienced spinners like Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, and Rehan Ahmed for this tour, it was their unreliable batting that contributed more to their downfall. Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Ollie Pope were the only players to score centuries, while Zak Crawley proved his mettle as an opener by ending the series as England's top run-getter.

On the collective front, though, England failed as a batting unit. Much was expected from the so-called 'messiahs of Test cricket', but they fell flat on their faces against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

Bairstow, in particular, had a forgettable series. The Yorkshireman should have shouldered the responsibility to keeping the innings together coming in at No. 5, given that he was the third-most experienced figure in England's batting lineup behind Root and skipper Ben Stokes.

Heck, Kuldeep Yadav, who batted in four innings less than Bairstow, faced more balls than the Englishman. Bairstow could only manage to score 238 runs in 10 innings with a high score of 39. The only positive for Bairstow apart from England's win in the first Test was reaching the 100-Test milestone in Dharamsala.

'Not cut out for it' - Jonny Bairstow trolled after poor series

X (formerly Twitter) exploded on Saturday, following India's one-sided victory against England in the fifth Test. Bairstow, in particular, was trolled excessively on X.

One fan tweeted, "Bairstow has been coming to India year after year only to get ****** time and again. He should rule himself out of these tours going forward. He's not cut out for it."

Another said, "Had Jonny Bairstow played for India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, there is no way he would have played 100 Tests."

Here are some of the best reactions on X:

What next for Jonny Bairstow?

Bairstow will join the Punjab Kings camp ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

He will leave India in May for a four-match T20I series against Pakistan at home, which will be played right before the all-important 2024 T20 World Cup, where England will be defending their title.
