Gautam Gambhir had a fairytale with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League during his time as their captain. Born in Delhi, Gambhir certainly found a second home in Kolkata when he first moved to the franchisee in 2011. 

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Gambhir returned to Kolkata, this time as their mentor. After winning the IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, the 42-year-old has associated himself with the KKR franchise once again, albeit in a different role this time.

Recently, KKR's newly-appointed mentor spoke with Star Sports regarding the team's aims for the upcoming season.

What did Gautam Gambhir say about KKR's season ambitions?

Gautam Gambhir labelled IPL as 'serious cricket', in his conversation with Star Sports. The mentor has not held his horses back, in coming out with rigorous statements, even before the commencement of IPL 2024. 

He said,

I have made it very clear on Day 1 that IPL for me is serious Cricket. It's not about Bollywood, it's not about glamour, it's the toughest league in the world - KKR fans are passionate so we need to be honest & bring smile to their face.

When will KKR play their first game of IPL 2024?

Kolkata Knight Riders are set to host Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first game of the IPL 2024. The Knight Riders would kickstart their 17th edition in the tournament at Eden Gardens, on March 23, 2024.
