Indian cricket team’s former coach, Rahul Dravid is set for a return in the IPL. ‘The Wall’ marks his return to India’s flagship cricketing event after the conclusion of a successful tenure with the Men in Blue.

Dravid lifted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 as the coach in Barbados, serving as a perfect send-off to three glorious years with the Indian team. He had made up his mind to discontinue the team after their disappointment in the Final of the ODI World Cup 2023 against the Australians.

However, skipper Rohit Sharma convinced the former Indian cricketer to stay up until the T20 World Cup, a story that panned out perfectly in the end.

Following his farewell, Dravid is now set to coach IPL side Rajasthan Royals in the 18th edition of the competition in 2025, as reported by the Times of India (TOI).

Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner

What is Rahul Dravid’s record as a mentor in the IPL?

Dravid’s first stint as a mentor in the IPL proved to be the 2014 IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals. RR almost made it to the playoff but were defied by Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians, in the deciding clash for a playoff spot at the Wankhede.

Aditya Tare smashed a six on the final of the game to James Faulkner with MI requiring a boundary on the Final ball to qualify.

In the 2015 season, Dravid led the Royals to a third-placed finish, however, the inaugural IPL champions were knocked out in the playoffs.

In the 2016 season, Dravid switched up to the Delhi Capitals for the 2016 IPL season. However, it proved to be a disappointing season as Delhi finished sixth in the table with seven wins in fourteen games. He later went on to coach the Indian U-19 side, coaching the then-young talents like Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar in the process.
