IPL 2024 might be a few months away but there is no dearth of excitement surrounding the event.

A kite-flying festival was organised recently involving the IPL franchises. The festival was held to celebrate the upcoming kite-flying day on 14th January. All IPL teams had gathered to be a part of the flagship event, organised by media outlet, Star Sports.

As India prepares itself for another edition of the biggest and the most-expensive T20 league in the world, the teams were taken for a friendly tournament, if we were to say so. Here is everything of what happened at the recent IPL kite-flying festival.

Who won the IPL kite-flying contest?

The Sunrisers Hyderabad won the IPL kite-flying contest. The SRH defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore to win the flagship event hosted by Star Sports.

The final of the IPL kite-flying contest 2024 was a replay of the 2016 IPL Final, wasn't it? And it is safe to say that the history repeated itself!

Where was the IPL kite-flying contest held?

The IPL kite-flying festival was held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The contest was streamed live on the Star Sports YouTube channel, and was free for everyone to see.

What happened in the 2016 IPL Final?

The Sunrisers Hyderabad were crowned winners of the IPL 2016. The Nizams beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore at their own backyard. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium hosted the final, as the hosts fell short of victory by eight runs.

Batting first, SRH put up a handsome total of 208 runs on the board. Skipper David Warner hit a magnanimous half-century of 69 from 38 balls. Ben Cutting provided a late flourish, which indeed proved to be the match-winning knock. Cutting hit 39 runs off just 15 deliveries, sending the RCB bowlers to the cleaners.

In response, RCB ended their run-chase at 200, falling nine runs short of the required target. Opening duo Chris Gayle (76) and Virat Kohli (54) hit half-centuries off their blades. It looked like RCB were running away with the title at one point. However, the Challengers bottled it towards the end, with the rest of the squad failing to step up.
