According to a report from Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to schedule the start of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 22, with the final taking place on May 26.
The BCCI have reportedly planned this schedule in accordance with the General Election timetable, with the elections taking place once again in 2024.
A part of IPL took place outside India in previous years (the entire 2009 IPL was held in South Africa, while UAE hosted a certain amount of games in 2014), but the BCCI is confident about IPL 2024 being held in India in 2024.

IPL 2024 to commence after WPL Season 2
The BCCI and its stakeholders have tentatively agreed upon a timetable that spans the second season of the WPL from February 22 to March 17. The games for WPL 2024 will take place in Delhi and Bangalore.
The BCCI is also thinking of having the event over the period of March 22–May 26. Only until the election dates are revealed can the schedule be confirmed, but the BCCI is optimistic of holding the full league in India.
If that's the case, it would be tricky for the international players at the 2024 T20 World Cup begins just five days after the conclusion of IPL 2024.
While the report adds that the BCCI "has received assurances" from the cricket boards regarding the participation of their players until the final, it should also be known that many cricketers could leave the league earlier than expected in order to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
What next for India?
With the IPL still at least two months away, the focus turns to red-ball cricket as India are going to host England in a five-match Test series which begins on January 25 in Hyderabad.
India's first game at the 2024 T20 World Cup will take place on June 5, 2024, against Ireland at the Eisenhower Park in New York.
