IPL 2024 is set to commence on March 22, confirming reports which indicated that it will begin in the fourth week of March.
However, only the first 17 days' worth of schedule was revealed, leaving everyone wondering why only part of the entire schedule was released and when the entire schedule will be made public.
The real reason why only the first 17 days of the schedule was released
On Thursday, February 22, in the presence of ICC CEO Geoff Allardyce and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the BCCI announced the schedule for IPL 2024, but only up until April 7.
"Initially, we will announce the programme for the first 10-12 days," IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal had mentioned before the announcement of the IPL 2024 schedule.
The General Elections will be taking place this summer, which is why the BCCI have announced only the first 17 days of schedule.
In 2009, the IPL was held in South Africa in its entirety, while in 2014, the first half of the competition was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In 2019, though, the IPL was held entirely in India. In addition to the eight venues of the eight franchises that season, a further four to six venues were shortlisted as backups.
Since there has been no announcement for the dates for this year's General Elections, the higher-ups at BCCI and IPL decided to release the schedule between March 22 to April 7.

When can we expect to get the full IPL 2024 schedule?
The full schedule of IPL 2024 will be released only once the dates for this year's General Elections are made public.
"As in the past, the BCCI will work closely with government and security agencies, following all necessary protocols and advisories related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. Once the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are announced, the Board will review and address any issues pertaining to the schedule of the first two weeks. Subsequently, the BCCI will work in tandem with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into account the polling dates," IPL's official press release stated.
