Indian chess team creates history in Budapest as they bag their first-ever Olympiad gold with a win over Slovenia and Azerbaijan in the open and women's section.

On Sunday, September 22, the Indian chess team faced Slovenia in the final round of the 45th Chess Olympiad where Gukesh Dommaraju, R. Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi won their matches and Vidit Gujrathi drew his game to help India in winning the final 3.5-0.5 against Slovenia, taking 21 points out of the possible 22 points. Harikrishna competed as a reserve board player.
In the women’s event final, India assured a 3.5-0.5 win over Azerbaijan with wins for Harika Dronavalli, Divya Deshmukh and Vantika Agrawal and a draw for Vaishali Rameshbabu. Tania Sachdev played on the reserve board for the Indian women. India finished with 19 points on the board, one more than Kazakhstan.
Following the win, the Indian team recreated the famous Rohit Sharma 'trophy walk' celebration from the T20 World Cup which was originally inspired from Lionel Messi and WWE star Ric Flair.
