Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer injury update: Duo likely to miss WTC final image

Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer might not be able to make it to the squad of the World Test Championship in June as inferred from the medical update issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Due to their respective back injuries, both cricketers have been out of action for a considerable period of time. Bumrah had to undergo lower back surgery in New Zealand and has now initiated his recovery process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, starting from Friday.

What did BCCI say about Jasprit Bumrah's injury?

"Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly," said BCCI.

India's premier fast bowler has been absent from the cricket field since September 25 of last year. After recuperating from a back injury, he made a comeback during the T20I series against Australia but unfortunately suffered another setback in his back during the same series, which ruled him out of the T20 World Cup in Australia. Despite recovering again, Bumrah had to withdraw from the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka due to back pain he experienced during a match simulation at the NCA.

According to reports, he is unlikely to play in the WTC final against Australia from June 7 to 11 at the Oval in England.
