USA created history while playing in their first ever T20 World Cup 2024. Entering the tournament as the underdogs, USA managed to qualify for the Super 8 round of the tournament after a historic win over 2022 World Cup finalists, Pakistan.

Since qualifying for the Super 8s though, it hasn't gone well for the co-hosts though, as they have lost both of their opening two games in the Super 8s and are practically knocked out of the tournament.

They managed to put up a good fight against the South Africans, falling short of the Proteas’ total of 194 by 18 runs. Andries Gous’ 80-run unbeaten knock gave the US a fighting chance. In the second game against West Indies though, they were absolutely decimated by the Windies’ bowlers and later by the batters. USA lost the game by 9 wickets after setting a target of 129 runs for the Windies to chase, which they did with over 9 overs remaining.

One of the main reasons behind USA’s struggle in the Super 8s has been the absence of their skipper, Monank Patel. Monank missed all of the games for the USA after picking up an injury following the game against Pakistan.

He has already missed two weeks worth of playing time for the US and is highly doubtful to make it back in time for the game against England on June 23.

How did Monank Patel get injured?

According to reports, it has been claimed that Monak got injured in a very unfortunate way. After the historic win against Pakistan, it is reported that the team were celebrating exuberantly on their way back to the hotel on the team bus.

It was during these celebrations when Monank suffered a fall on his right shoulder. According to reports, Monank suffered an injury on his shoulder rotator cuff along with a hairline fracture, which has kept him out all this while.

Monank had an important contribution for his team in the win against the Pakistanis. The wicket keeper batsmen scored a stunning half century and built an important partnership alongside Andries Gous to take US close to Pakistan’s target of 160 runs. He was awarded the man of the match title for his valiant efforts after USA won the match in a thrilling super over.
