The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to select a new permanent chief of the selection panel.

The BCCI tweeted earlier this week requesting applications for the open chief selector position. The board is looking for the best candidate to succeed Chetan Sharma, who resigned in February.

In a sting operation by a news channel, Sharma was seen commenting on several cricketers, including Virat Kholi, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and India coach Rahul Dravid. he also claimed that about 80 per cent of the cricketers 'took injections' to speed up the recovery process after injury.

Currently, Shiv Sundar Das is acting as the interim chief selector.

Ajit Agarkar the leading candidate to take over the BCCI chief selector role

According to recent reports, Ajit Agarkar, a former India bowler is the leading candidate for the post of BCCI selection committee chief.

Agarkar's appointment as chief selector is regarded as all but certain, despite the fact that there has been no official announcement on the subject up to this point.

A medium-fast bowler who was quite handy with the bat, Agarkar has played for India in 26 Test matches, 191 ODIs, and 4 T20 matches over the course of his career. In addition to this, he has participated in 42 IPL games.

Recently, Virender Sehwag was reportedly approached for the new chief selector role, but the former opener refused these offer.
