India W vs England W: Scores and highlights from Day 1 of the Test match image

Women's Test cricket returned to India for the first time after nine long years as India women took on England women in the only Test at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Prior to this one-off Test, the two sides had squared off in 14 Tests, with India winning two Tests, England winning once, and 11 draws. The last Test between these two teams was played in 2021 in Bristol, which resulted in a draw.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who is India's captain in the white ball formats, made her Test captaincy debut on a day that saw the Indian team create a lot of records as they ended Day 1 on a massive score of 410-7, the second-highest total by any team on the first day of a Women's Test.

Bet here now on the India Women vs England Women Test match and other cricket matches!

Not since 1996 have any team scored as many runs on Day 1 of a Test in women's cricket, and it's only the second instance of a team crossing 400 runs after England Women posted 435 runs against New Zealand Women in Christchurch in 1935.

India won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch that had a covering of green grass which was expected to assist the pacers in the initial hour in the morning, following which the conditions would become conducive to batting.

Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana looked good in the middle in the first five overs with India racing to 25-0. Mandhana, in particular, was fluid with her strokeplay, scoring 17 runs off her 11 balls. However, a poor shot selection led to her dragging the ball on to the stumps after her attempted cut shot off Lauren Bell resulted in an inside edge.

The other opening bowler in Kate Cross dismissed Verma, the other opener, in contrasting fashion with an absolute peach of the delivery. The swashbuckling right-hander was sent back to the pavilion for just 19 with India losing both their openers inside the first 40 minutes and inside 50 runs.

After England bowlers won the opening hour, debutants Shubha Satheesh and Jemimah Rodrigues put on a stellar showing as they stitched a 115-run partnership for the third wicket.

Satheesh had a dream start to her international career as she raced to a fifty in her first Test and took just 49 balls to reach the landmark, thus becoming the third-fastest women's cricketer to score a Test fifty.

Jemimah, too, got a fifty on Test debut. However, both set batters were dismissed within five overs with India reeling at 190-4. Satheesh scored a 76-ball 69 laced with 13 boundaries, showcasing her aggressive approach to the fullest extent, while Jemimah scored 68 off 99 balls with 11 boundaries to her name.

In came skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia, who made the most of the foundation laid by Satheesh and Jemimah to raise another century stand, adding 116 runs for the fifth wicket.

Harmanpreet was unlucky to miss out on a deserved half-century as she was run out on 49. As was the theme during the innings, the loss of one wicket was followed by the fall of another as Bhatia gave her wicket away to Charlie Dean.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma, who walked in at No. 7, made sure the lower order didn't collapse and Sneh Rana ably supported her in a praiseworthy 92-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

At Stumps on Day 1, India had put on 410 runs on the board, with Deepti remaining unbeaten on 60. As many as four players scored sixties, and even though they will rue not converting their starts into a triple-digit score, India are in the driver's seat heading into Day 2.

Bell was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, being the only bowler to pick up two wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the most economical bowler on a day when every other bowler leaked runs, giving away just 25 runs in 11 overs with one wicket to her name.
