India are hoping to script a comeback in Cape Town, as they take on South Africa in the second and final Test of the series on Wednesday.

The hosts had proved too hot to handle in the opening match in Centurion. India were bowled out for 245 in their first innings before Dean Elgar's 185 helped South Africa to a 163-run lead. The Protea pacers then took over, knocking over the visitors for just 131 to secure an innings victory.

India can now draw the two-Test series, and gain some valuable World Test Championship points if they manage to win in Cape Town. Historically, the strip at Cape Town hasn't favoured the Indians, who are yet to score a win at the venue.

9:02 pm - AT STUMPS ON DAY 1. South Africa 62/3, trail by 36 runs at the end of the first day's play. What an exciting day 1 of the second Test that saw, 270 runs scored and 23 wickets have fallen.

7:38 pm - South Africa's second innings begin. They are trailing by 98 runs.

7:27 pm - Scintillating bowling performance by the Proteas as they clean up India's lower order and bowl them out for just 153 runs. India lead by 98 runs.

6:32 pm - 3RD SESSION BEGINS. India need to build a partnership now in order to take a big lead at the end of the first innings, South Africa, on the other hand, will hope to clear out the middle and the tail as early as possible.

6:15 pm - TEA, Day 1: India are 111/4 as they lead by 56 runs. The second session saw South Africa stage a comeback as they picked up three wickets and cleared India's top order. Virat Kohli continues to remain on the crease along with KL Rahul.

5:49 pm - 100 runs are up for India after just 20 overs. Indeed, they have gotten those runs in double quick time, with their lead growing to 46. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli look comfortable in the middle. Can the duo run away with the game?

4:10 pm - 2ND SESSION BEGINS. The players are back into the middle as India will hope to take full advantage of the performance put on by the Indian bowlers. Kagiso Rabada will start for South Africa with Yashasvi Jaiswal on strike. India trail by 55 runs. HERE WE GO!

3:35 pm - LUNCH, DAY 1: PHEW!!!! WHAT A FIERY SESSION OF FAST BOWLING THAT. TAKE A BOW MOHAMMED SIRAJ. The Hyderabad-born bowler bowled nine overs on the trot in his opening spell and account for six wickets. Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar wrapped up the tail to subject South Africa to their fifth-lowest innings total at home. 

2:50 pm - It's the fifth wicket down for South Africa now, and Mohammed Siraj is running riot at the Newlands Cricket Ground. The hosts are in danger of being bowled out cheaply and India have made an astounding comeback following the loss in the 1st Test. What a session for India.

Meanwhile, South Africa are missing pacer Gerald Coetzee and captain Temba Bavuma due to injury. Dean Elgar, who is playing his last match, will take on the captain's armband. Tristan Stubbs will be making his Test at Cape Town.
