India and England are set to square off in the fifth Test as the series draws to a close. The match will begin on Thursday, March 7, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

This Test series has been an excellent endorsement for Test cricket as the two teams have given their all to produce some nail-biting action and edge-of-the-seat entertainment.

England’s tour of India began with a fantastic 28-run victory in Hyderabad. But the hosts have since stamped their authority, winning the next three games to win the series with one game to go.

The match will serve as a special occasion for both Jonny Bairstow and Ravichandran Ashwin, who will be playing their 100th Tests respectively.

On day three, Indian pair Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah resumed proceedings with their side 255 runs ahead. They could add just four more runs, however, as James Anderson completed 700 Test wickets with Kuldeep's wicket.

India's bowlers then took over after that as R Ashwin, in his 100th Test match, picked up five wickets to help skittle England for 195 and secure a win by an innings and 64 runs.

LIVE UPDATES: IND vs ENG 5TH TEST

1:50 PM: ENGLAND 195/10 - WICKET!! - INDIA WIN - Joe Root tries to smash Kuldeep over long-on, but all he can do is pick out Jasprit Bumrah on the boundary. He's gone for 84, and the series ends 4-1 in India's favour.

1:50 PM: ENGLAND 189/9 - WICKET!! - Jadeja strikes! Round the wicket to Bashir, the ball stays a tad low and beats the bat to knock back off stump. It's the end of a gutsy partnership.

In comes James Anderson.

1:34 PM: ENGLAND 175/8 - Half an hour gone without a wicket falling has been an aberration in this innings. Root continues to fight on for England, with Bashir sticking it out at the other end, saving his wicket well.

12:57 PM: ENGLAND 141/8 - WICKET!! Bumrah gets Wood. A toe-crunching yorker that would have crashed into middle-leg. A review is wasted and Wood goes for a duck.

Shoaib Bashir is the new man to partner with Root.

12:54 PM: ENGLAND 141/7 - WICKET!! Bumrah dismisses Hartley for 20. Plumb LBW as the ball angled in after pitching on off-stump. He doesn't even review and instead walks away. Mark Wood is in the middle.

12:25 PM: ENGLAND 113/6 - WICKET!! Ashwin gets a fifer in his 100th Test match. He has demolished the English top order and Foakes is his latest victim! The batsman hits and misses & Ashwin strikes! Foakes goes for eight. Hartley is the new man in!

12:10 PM: ENGLAND 103/5 - We are back after lunch with Ben Foakes joining Joe Root.

11:25 AM: ENGLAND 103/5 - WICKET!! Ashwin gets Stokes for the 13th time in Tests! The England skipper is castled for two and that's LUNCH! Some respite for the visitors! Phew!!

11:13 AM: ENGLAND 92/4 - WICKET!! Kuldeep joins the party and gets Bairstow with a ripper. Sharp turn, through the gates, and is a plump LBW. He goes for a brisk 39. Ben Stokes is the new man in.

10:41 AM: ENGLAND 36/3 - WICKET!! Ashwin gets his third to dismiss Pope. The Chennai spinner is on a mission in his 100th Test match to get home as early as he can to celebrate with his family. Pope tries to sweep and the top spin gets the better of him. A good running catch by Jaiswal.

Bairstow is the new man in.

10:25 AM: ENGLAND 21/2 - WICKET!! Ashwin gets his second to send back Crawley for a duck. The ball turned from a good length and he chips it to backward short leg - Sarfaraz says thank you!

Joe Root is the new man in.

10:08 AM: ENGLAND 2/1 - WICKET!! Duckett gifts his wicket to Ashwin. He dances down the track, the ball spins away and breaks the stumps. A bit foolish from the English opener to go gung-ho against the spinner from the very first over! Ollie Pope is the new man in.

10:00 AM: ENGLAND 0/0 - The Three Lions have a mountain to climb and Crawley & Duckett are out in the middle to face Bumrah!

9:49 AM: INDIA 477/10 - WICKET!! Bashir gets his fifth wicket to wrap India up. Bumrah does not have any part of his feet behind the popping crease and England get the job just 20 minutes within the start of play.

9:45 AM: INDIA 477/9 - WICKET!! ANDERSON GETS HIS 700TH! Kuldeep edges it to Foakes and the veteran picks his milestone wicket.

9:30 AM: INDIA 473/8 - Anderson on 699 Test wickets! Kuldeep ready to face the veteran with Bumrah at the other end.

4:49 PM: INDIA 473/8 - STUMPS - This partnership between Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah has frustrated England greatly. They've put on 45 valuable runs, and stretched India's lead beyond 250.

3:41 PM: INDIA 428/8 - WICKET!! - Another one bites the dust! A second in the over for Hartley. Comes round the wicket and gets this to skid on with the arm. Ashwin is caught on the crease and his middle stump is knocked back. He's gone for a duck.

Jasprit Bumrah is the new batter.

3:39 PM: INDIA 427/7 - WICKET!! - That's the end of Jadeja! Tom Hartley gets his first of the innings now. Turns in sharply from outside off stump and catches the batter on the pad. Given out and reviewed, but three reds means he has to go.

Kuldeep Yadav comes in.

3:35 PM: INDIA 427/6 - WICKET!! - Bashir strikes! Jurel comes down the wicket to the off-spinner and tries to muscle him over long on. He slices across it, and holes out to the man on the boundary for just 15.

R Ashwin is the new batter.

3:31 PM: INDIA 426/5 - This is a fairly sedate phase of the game at the moment. Jurel and Jadeja have been patient so far, and will be looking to get to stumps without losing another wicket. The Indian lead has gone past 200 as well.

3:05 PM: INDIA 403/5 - WICKET!! - Absolute beauty! Bashir comes round the wicket to Padikkal. It drifts into the left-hander, grips and turns just enough to knock back off stump. He has to go for a well-made 65.

In comes Dhruv Jurel.

2:35 PM: INDIA 376/4 - WICKET!! - First ball after tea! Bashir into the attack, and Sarfaraz looks to play this late, almost out of the keeper's gloves. The extra bounce takes the top edge and Joe Root snaps up the catch at slip.

Ravindra Jadeja comes out to the middle.

2:13 PM: INDIA 376/3 - TEA - Stokes and Anderson promised much at the start of this session, with the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. But since then, it's been all India. Sarfaraz has come in and slammed a fifty, and Padikkal is also looking more fluent. The hosts are firmly in control at tea.

1:37 PM: INDIA 337/3 - This is a promising stand for India. There were a couple of nervy moments at the start of it, but Padikkal and now Sarfaraz have started to play some shots. The partnership is 58, the lead is 119.

12:52 PM: INDIA 300/3 - Paddikal and Sarfaraz are living dangerously at the moment. Nonetheless, they are striving to rotate the strike and see off the Stokes' spell with utmost caution - which seems to be a prudent strategy. Two quick wickets and suddenly England happen to be on top!

12:27 PM: INDIA 279/3 - WICKET!! ANDERSON joins the party as Gill is dismissed. A yawning gap between the bat & pad and the off-stump is dismantled. He goes for 110 as Sarfaraz Khan comes out to bat.

12:20 PM: INDIA 275/2 - WICKET!! BEN STOKES gets Rohit! First ball of the series and it is a magic delivery. A good length delivery that seamed away a bit but held its line to clip Rohit's off stumps. Rohit goes for 103 and Padikkal comes into the middle.

12:10 PM: INDIA 264-1 - We are back after lunch!

11:30 AM: INDIA 264-1 - India lead by 46 runs going into lunch on Day 2 of the fifth Test. After wiping off the deficit, India have completely dominated proceedings in the session. Gill is currently unbeaten on 101 (142 balls, 10x4, 5x6) and Sharma on 102 (160 balls, 13x4, 3x6).

11:26 AM: INDIA 262/1 - Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma bring up their hundreds within the space of three balls on contrasting fashion. While Sharma nudges a ball down leg for a single to score his second century of the series, the stylish Gill sweeps Shoaib Bashir for a four. India extend lead to 42 runs.

It was the 12th Test hundred for Sharma.

11:00 AM: INDIA 230/1 - India lead by 12 runs. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are piling on the runs and the pressure on England. In his innings of 80, Gill has scored eight fours and four sixes while Sharma has scored 89.

10:30 AM: INDIA 202/1 - 200 comes up for India within an hour and they trail by just 16 runs. Stokes needs to find an alternative strategy to trouble the two batsmen. They are just two short of a 100-partnership and England bowlers have been taken to the cleaners in the morning session so far.

10:00 AM: INDIA 184/1 - It has been smooth sailing for India in the first 30 minutes. Both these players have hammered Shoaib & Anderson without much trouble and have brought down the deficit to below 50 runs. Gill reaches his 50 in 64 deliveries! Looking mighty strong at the moment!

9:30 AM: INDIA 135/1 - Rohit & Shubman are out in the middle as Shoaib starts proceedings for England.

4:56 PM: INDIA 135/1 - STUMPS - That's stumps, and it's been a day dominated by India. They bowled England out shortly after tea, and now trail by just 83 runs.

4:26 PM: INDIA 104/1 - WICKET!! Jaiswal got a hold of Bashir, but this time he goes down the track for a third boundary in a row and misses a tossed up delivery. Ben Foakes does the rest behind the stumps, whipping the bails off to dismiss the left-hander for 57.

Shubman Gill comes to the crease.

3:56 PM: INDIA 66/0 - Jaiswal got out of his shell by smashing Shoaib Bashir for three sixes in an over, and he and Rohit have made merry so far. It's looking ominous for England today, especially with the extra half hour of play to come.

3:31 PM: INDIA 25/0 - It's usually been Jaiswal who gets off to quick starts, but Rohit Sharma has played quite aggressively so far, even hooking Mark Wood for six. It's a promising start for India, but England had one as well.

2:56 PM: INDIA 0/0 - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma are out in the middle. They wouldn't have expected to bat so soon, but it's a good chance now for both batters to try and make a massive score on a wicket that hasn't done anything drastic so far.

2:46 PM: 218/10 - WICKET!! All out! That's the end of the innings. Anderson tries to hoick Ashwin over the legside, but can only pick out Padikkal in the ring at midwicket. England will be disappointed with their performance here on day one.

2:42 PM: 218/9 - WICKET!! Nine down! It's a third for Ashwin. Foakes tries to sweep from outside off stump, it goes off pad, then glove and agonisingly slowly back onto the stumps. England's wicketkeeper is gone for 24.

In comes James Anderson.

2:41 PM: 218/8 - There's been some brisk scoring since the break from Foakes and Bashir. India have brought back Jasprit Bumrah, and it's time to see if he can polish off the final two wickets here.

2:10 PM: 194/8 - TEA - What a session it's been for India. Some poor batting on show, combined with solid bowling especially from Kuldeep Yadav means England are in danger of being bowled out on day one.

1:53 PM: 183/8 - WICKET!! Another one! Wood just hangs his bat out at this one. It takes the outside edge and the catch is gobbled up by Rohit Sharma at slip. He's gone for a two-ball duck.

In comes Shoaib Bashir.

1:51 PM: 183/7 - WICKET!! Ashwin strikes! Tossed up and Hartley goes after this one, over long on. But there's a fielder back just for this shot, and Devdutt Padikkal holds onto a good catch.

Mark Wood comes out to the middle.

1:36 PM: 175/6 - WICKET!! Five for Kuldeep Yadav! Exceptional bowling from the leggie. Got one to turn sharply past Stokes' outside edge, and follows it up with the googly. Comes back in to the England captain who is trapped on the crease and rapped on the pads. Given out and reviewed, the decision is upheld.

Tom Hartley comes in.

1:28 PM: 175/5 - WICKET!! One brings two! Jadeja returns to Root. Gets one to go straight on and rap the Englishman on the pad. Given out on field, but he reviews. Three reds, and he's gone for 26.

In comes Ben Foakes.

1:25 PM: 175/4 - WICKET!! That's the end of Bairstow. It's been a short but sweet stay at the crease in his 100th Test. Hit Kuldeep for a six and a four in this over and tries to go again, over cover but just gets a tickle through to the keeper. 29 off 18 for him.

Ben Stokes is the new batter.

12:56 PM: 137/3 - WICKET!! CRAWLEY is castled at 79 by Yadav! Tossed up, he went for the drive, missed it and the stumps are broken. A magic delivery from Yadav to end a special innings.

Jonny Bairstow walks out in the middle.

12:10 PM: We are back after lunch and Joe Root is the new man in!

11:30 AM: 100/2 - WICKET!! Pope gets stumped. The batsman had no clue about the googly from Yadav and he was almost halfway down the crease. Jurel calms breaks the stumps and Pope has to depart for 11. And that's LUNCH!

11:20 AM: 50 for Crawley! The English batter reaches his fourth half-century of the series. A steady & cautious innings so far. He had his wobbles in the first hour but has looked good beyond that.

11:00 AM: 64/1 - WICKET!! Duckett is removed by Kuldeep Yadav. The batsman was frustrated as the Indian bowlers had not allowed him to break his shackles. He failed to pick the googly and Gill running sideways took a brilliant catch to dismiss the batsman for 27. Ollie Pope is the new man in.

10:45 AM: 52/0 - The two England openers have survived the early storm and are gradually getting a foothold on the match. The Indian seamers have looked dangerous but have not been able to get the breakthrough.

10:00 AM: 22/0 - Nothing Bazzballish in the first 30 minutes. It has been a cautious start from Duckett & Crawley as the two Indian pacers are breathing fire in Dharamshala.

9:30 AM: 0/0 - England openers Ben Duckett & Zak Crawley are out in the middle with Jasprit Bumrah having a go with the new ball.

India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Devdutt Padikkal, Ravindra Jadeja, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Srikar Bharat

England (Playing XI): Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Ben Stokes(c), Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes(w), Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, Mark Wood, James Anderson

Rohit Sharma: We would have batted first as well. We have done really well so far this series and an opportunity to finish on a high. There should be good bounce on this pitch than the games before in this series. Good pitch to bat on and I don't think it will deteriorate that much. Ash has been a real stalwart of Indian cricket. Such a proud moment for him, his nation and the family. We will be rooting for him to do the magic. Bumrah is back, Akash Deep misses out. Devdutt Padikkal makes his debut as Patidar got injured last evening.

Ben Stokes: We are going to have a bat. You probably have a bat looking at this pitch. It's another opportunity to represent our country. Amazing! Jonny is one of our best ever all format players. 100 Test caps shows his commitment. Nice moment a few minutes ago when he got the cap. One change for us. Mark Wood comes in.

TOSS: England win the toss and they will bat first.

Devdutt Paddikal is awarded his first Test Cap by R Ashwin.

We are just five minutes to Toss and India might go with THREE SPINNERS.

HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala: Pitch Report

Given that the soil it is composed of is loamy, the pitch may be sluggish. However, on the first two days of the Test match and anytime there is any cloud cover in the sky, pacers may benefit from the moisture retained from being covered during rain and wind.

The weather forecast has predicted that there’s more than 50% probability of rain in the morning on the first two days.

Ben Stokes, on the eve of the Test match, spoke about the pitch: “To be honest, we’re a little bit, sort of, surprised when we looked at the wicket. We sort of had in our head that it was going to be a three-seam attack. But, yeah, goes to show, you know, preconceived ideas and all kinds of things sometimes isn’t the best thing to do. But, yeah, look [we’re] having the two-seamer options with our two spinners, and I think it looks a really, really good wicket. Looks like it might have a bit of pace and carry.”
