Australia looked to be in charge of the third Test at Indore heading into day two, but a dramatic fall put India back into the game.

The visitors made 41 runs before being bowled out for 197 runs and leading the home side by 88.

India came to the crease in hope to erase their deficit and set a strong and defendable total, but how wrong they were.

Nathan Lyon - after taking three polls in the first innings - dominated day two, claiming eight wickets and assisting his country to a healthy advantage.

India were eventually knocked over for 163 runs, leaving the Aussies with a 76 run-chase.

Lyon etches name further into the G.O.A.T conversation

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has continued adding greatness to his name, claiming the most test wickets for a visiting bowler in Asia, surpassing legend Shane Warne (127).

Lyon has claimed 129 (31.77) victims in the neigbouring continent to go along with his 478 wickets and counting.

The 35-year-old is destined to reach the 500 milestone, a feat that only eight bowlers in history have achieved.

Lyon also recorded an extraordinary coup in February, tallying 30,000 bowls for no no-balls.

Nathan Lyon today bowled his 30,000th delivery in Test cricket without ever overstepping. Not a single line no-ball in entire career.

The off-spinner collected eight wickets (8/64) on day two (second innings), running riot for the Aussies and putting them in reaching distance of their first victory of the tour.

Lyon, along with Matthew Kuhnemann and Todd Murphy have proved to be a lethal attack in the third Test at Indore, taking all but one wicket (Mitchell Starc) so far.

Pujara good, but not good enough

Cheteshwar Pujara was a sliver of hope in the Indian batting line-up during the second innings.

Coming in at the three, Pujara was forced to hold off the Australian spinners as his teammates kept getting sent back to the sheds.

During his innings, the 28-year-old managed to raise the bat - the first for India this test - and was looking like posting a defendable score.

However, some brilliance from Nathan Lyon and Steve Smith saw the visitors send Pujara packing.

The Indian batsmen should hold his head high after his 59 off 142 innings to keep his country in the game.

Khawaja, Smith apply for classic catches

In need of a break-through, the Australians were hopeful of something miraculous. And they got it.

Off Mitchell Starc, Usman Khawaja was standing at mid-wicket when the ball rocketed at him from the bat of Shreyas Iyer (26 off 27).

The partnership between Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara was at an innings-high 35 runs before Khawaja's heroics.

The dismissal of the 28-year-old swung the momentum and favouritism back into the visitors hand as they look to gain some pride back after the disappointing tests prior.

Stand-in captain Steve Smith also joined in on the party, taking an absolute screamer at leg slip.

Nathan Lyon bowled to the dangerous and seemingly impenetrable Pujara and found the bat.

The ball somehow found Smith's right hand and the Aussies were in awe of what they had seen.

Aussies go down and go down fast

Australia's day one against India at Indore was something to be proud of, bowling the home side out for 109 and ending the day 4/156.

With Cameron Green and Peter Handscomb at the crease, it looked like the Aussies would set a damning lead that could help square up the ledger for the series (India lead 2-0).

The partnership between Green-Handscomb didn't last very long on day two of the third Test and from there it went all down hill.

The Australian's lost six wickets for a total of 11 runs in just under six overs to be bowled out for 197.

Todd Murphy (zero off six) had his stumps knocked over; Alex Carey added three to the total and was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin's spin; Experienced bowlers Mitchell Starc (one off three) and Nathan Lyon (five off eight) also fell victim to a measly total.

The visitors set up a lead of 88 runs and would hope they could replicate their first innings in the field to help set up their first victory of the tour.
