Along with the end of their US campaign, India will also be releasing two of the four reserves Shubhman Gill and Avesh Khan who travelled alongside the 15-man squad. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed will stay back with the team for the Caribbean leg of the tournament.

Why have Gill and Avesh been released?

Shubhman Gill and Avesh Khan both had a terrific IPL season with their respective teams but failed to make it to the final squad of the T20 World Cup. They still travelled with the team as reserves but now the decision to release them has been taken with the logic behind it being very simple.

India already have a formidable opening pair in Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma going forward in the Super 8s. Even if one of them does get injured, talented youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal is already available as a replacement. A fourth opener won’t be required for the Super 8 stages of India’s campaign.

Meanwhile, the reason for Avesh Khan’s departure is slightly different. After India reaches the Caribbean islands following the game against Canada, there won’t be much gap between the Super 8 matches. This dismisses any chances of requiring a net bowler since there won’t be any net practice sessions conducted due to the time constraints.
