The BCCI had released an invitation on May 13 for the position of the head coach of India, following Rahul Dravid’s stepping down after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in June. The deadline for the applications ended on May 27, a day after the IPL final.
According to The Indian Express, BCCI have received over 3000 applications for the job post but most of those applicants are fake. The fake applicants seem to have used names of celebrities, former cricketers as well as politicians.

As the deadline for the applications ended, BCCI found that a lot of fake applicants used the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s name alongside the Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah.
Former cricketers including the likes of MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were also present in the long line of fake applications. This is not the first time that the BCCI have had to go through such a crisis.
Back in 2022 as well, the board had received over 5000 applications for the head coach position, which included fake applications including names of celebrities, cricketers, etc. Though it still remains unclear whether the Board have received any applications from genuine candidates who are actually serious about taking up the post.

“Last year too, the BCCI received such a response where imposters applied and the story is similar this time. The reason the BCCI had to invite applications on Google forms is it’s easy to scrutinise the names of applicants in one sheet,” one of the BCCI officials stated
When will the next India head coach begin their tenure?
The next head coach for the Indian team, which will be appointed soon, will be taking over the reins from Rahul Dravid following the T20 World Cup that concludes by the end of June. Dravid had been coaching the team since December 2021 and decided against the extension.
