In-form Indian side suffered a heartbreak in the final of the Women's Asia Cup 2024 as they went down by 8 wickets against Sri Lanka on Sunday in Colombo.

The record seven-time title holders came into the game as favourites to clinch the clash and batting first, they managed to put up a formidable total of 165 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana was on song in the final as she played a brilliant knock of 60 runs off 47 balls. She was ably supported by Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh who scored 29 and 30 respectively. 

In response, however, Chamari Athapaththu gave the perfect start to the Lankans' run chase as she hit 61 off 43 balls while Harshitha Samarwickrama remained not out on 69 off 51 balls to make sure her team goes all the way and clinch the title.
