2023 was a year to remember for a lot of Indian players. Many players earned their debuts in 2023, a special moment for up-and-coming cricketers.
As far as the veterans are concerned, Virat Kohli considered one of the greatests of the game, bounced back and silenced his critics in 2023 after a couple of below-par years according to his standards.

How did Virat Kohli perform in Tests in 2023?
Kohli scored his 27th Test century in November 2019 against Bangladesh, scoring 136.
His next century came almost three years and four months later, in a Test match against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in March 2023. He scored an emphatic 186.
It is safe to say that Kohli returned to his best in Tests after three underwhelming years (2020, 2021, 2022), where he scored just six half-centuries and zero centuries in 36 innings.
His second Test century came against the Windies in July 2023, scoring 121. He was run out in that innings, which only begs the question "What could have been had he not been run out?"
In his most recent Test, the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at Centurion, he looked fluent in both innings, scoring 38 in the 1st innings and 76 in the 2nd innings. He aggregated the most runs for India in the Test (114).
Matches | Innings | Runs | Average | S.R. | 50s | 100s | HS |

How did Virat Kohli perform in ODIs in 2023?
If Kohli silenced his critics by proving he had unfinished business in the longest format of the game, he transformed into Super Saiyan mode in ODIs in 2023.
Indeed, the 'Chase Master' registered 14 fifty-plus figures in just 24 innings, of which six were centuries. That's a 50+ score once in a little less than two innings and a century every four innings.
Akin to Tests, Kohli had gone without a century in ODIs in 2020 and 2021, with his only century in 2022 coming in December. That's over three years without a century in one-day internationals for Kohli.
However, he shut everyone up this year, setting several records such as becoming the first-ever player to score 50 ODI tons and aggregating the most runs in a single World Cup edition.
It was the eighth time that Kohli scored over a thousand runs in a calendar year and the first time since 2019.
Matches | Innings | Runs | Average | S.R. | 50s | 100s | HS |
27 | 24 | 1377 | 72.47 | 99.13 | 8 | 6 | 166* |
How did Virat Kohli perform in T20Is in 2023
Just like Rohit Sharma, Kohli did not feature in a single T20I for India in 2023.
Kohli last played in the shortest format for the Men in Blue in the semi-final loss against England at the 2022 World Cup.
Could his uptick in form in 2023 in Tests and ODIs, coupled with his incredible IPL form, help him mark a return in T20Is for the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup to be held in the USA and the Caribbean? Only time will tell.
How did Virat Kohli perform across formats in 2023
In all, Kohli played 36 innings, scoring 10 fifties and eight hundreds.
With over 2000 runs, it was the seventh such instance of Kohli ending a calendar year with more than 2000 runs across formats, the most by any player in the history of the sport.
