How did Rohit Sharma perform across all formats in 2023? image

Rohit Sharma might have turned 36 this year, but 2023 was certainly one of his best years as a cricketer from a purely individualistic standpoint.

The Hitman served everyone a gentle reminder that he still has a lot left in the tank even though he is set to turn 37 in April 2024.

While he was at his destructive best in one-dayers in 2023, especially at the 2023 World Cup, he was not too far behind in Tests, either.

The 2023 World Cup final loss to Rohit must have been devastating for him as a captain, but he can find relief in the fact that he can still compete among the best cricketers in the world heading into 2024.

In this article, The Sporting News takes a look at Rohit's stats across formats in 2023.

How did Rohit Sharma perform in Tests in 2023?

Rohit had a fantastic start to red-ball cricket in 2023, scoring 120 off 212 deliveries in the 1st innings of the 1st Test against Australia. The Aussies had toured India for a four-match Test series.

In the World Test Championship 2023 Final against Australia, the Indian skipper couldn't manage to impose himself on the game as he scored just 15 and 43 in the two innings.

He returned to form in the Tests against West Indies in the Caribbean, scoring 240 runs in three innings with a pair of half-centuries and one century.

In his most recent Test, the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at Centurion, Rohit's displays were poor as he scored five runs in the 1st innings and walked back for a duck in the 2nd innings.

How did Rohit Sharma perform in ODIs in 2023?

Rohit had a phenomenal 2023 as far as ODIs were concerned. It was the fifth time that he crossed the 1000-run mark in ODIs in a calendar year, and the first time since 2019.

2023 began with a bang for Rohit, scoring 80 in the first of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home.

He came into his own at the 2023 World Cup. In the first match against Australia, the 36-year-old was dismissed without troubling the scorers. However, from that point on, he smashed bowlers left, right, and centre, setting the tone for India's innings in the first 10 overs.

India would often end the powerplay with a run rate above 7 or 8, which help them bat the opposition out of the game. Look no further than Rohit if you are trying to figure out the core protagonist behind it.

Even though India couldn't win the game that mattered the most after wiping the floor in all the 10 previous games, Rohit won hearts for the umpteenth time with his fearless approach and the 'leading from the front' attitude.

Oh, he also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of most centuries in World Cups. Rohit now has seven centuries in World Cups. Just unprecedented stuff.

With 67 sixes in ODIs in 2023, he also broke Ab de Villiers' record for most sixes in one-dayers in a calendar year (58).

How did Rohit Sharma perform in T20Is in 2023?

Rohit adopted a gung-ho approach in ODIs this year, which might have made you think that he would have decimated bowling attacks in T20Is.

Unfortunately, the five-time IPL winning captain did not feature in a single T20I for India in 2023. Even though he is still, officially, the captain of the Indian team in the shortest format, he has neither received a call-up to the T20I squads nor played a single game.

How did Rohit Sharma perform across all formats in 2023?

Overall, Rohit played 39 innings in 2023, scoring 11 fifties and registering four triple-digit scores.
