The T20 World Cup 2024 got off to a flying start on June 1 as USA chased down a target of 195, set by Canada, with more than two overs to spare. Both the teams were making their cricket World Cup debut in the match.
This edition of the T20 World Cup is the most expansive ever, as it features 20 teams. It is also the first time that an ICC World Cup is being played on US soil. And in their very first game, USA etched their name in T20 World Cup folklore, recording the joint-third highest successful run chase in tournament history.

What is the highest successful run-chase in T20 World Cup history?
England recorded the highest successful run-chase in T20 World Cup history, in their match-up against South Africa in the 2016 edition. The European giants chased down a mammoth 230-run target, courtesy of heroics from Joe Root (83 off 44) and Jason Roy (43 off 16).
Batting first, three Proteas batters scored 50-plus scores, to help put a score of 229 on the board. Quinton de Kock (52), Hashim Amla (58), and JP Duminy's (54*) contributions meant that England needed a record run-chase to win the battle, and boy oh boy, they did!
