The Day Night tests, which are usually played with a pink ball, was first introduced in the year 2015, when Australia took on New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval.

The Indian cricket team has so far taken part in just four Day Night or Pink ball Test matches, including the infamous Test match at Adelaide, in which the Men in Blue were routed all out for just 36 runs.

Out of the 19 Day-Night tests played so far, India has hosted three matches. However, according to Jay Shah, the secretary of the country's cricket governing body, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), India is unlikely to host any more of these pink ball tests, in the future.

Why did BCCI secretary Jay Shah say that India will not host Pink ball Tests?

Speaking to the Times group reporters, BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed the reason why the country will no longer host Pink ball or Day Night Tests in the country.

He stated that both the fans and broadcasters lost out on their money with Day Night Tests as the five-day Test match tends to finish in the first three days, which leads to a loss of revenue for the broadcasters.

While the fans are left with a bitter feeling of not getting their money's worth, especially the ones who bought their tickets for the fourth and fifth days.

"No, there are no provisions. Pink-ball Tests get over within two days in India. As a result, spectators lose money, broadcasters lose money. We need to look at sentiments also. As a fan, you go to a cricket match and buy a ticket for five days, but the game gets over within two or three days. There is no refund. So, I am slightly emotional in this case,” Jay Shah told TOI.
