The 2023 Indian Premier League kicks off with a thriller as reigning champions Gujarat Titans host four-time winners Chennai Super Kings.
Both fixtures between the two sides last year were played at the Wankhede Stadium, with the Titans winning by three wickets and seven wickets respectively. David Miller scored an unbeaten 94 off just 51 balls in the first meeting to take his side side over the line, with Rashid Khan also scoring a quickfire 40.
Not many would have expected Hardik Pandya's side to top the table and win the playoffs in their first year, but their big names all stepped up to the plate. GT won 10 of their 14 group matches before beating Rajasthan Royals twice in the playoffs.
The Super Kings on the other hand finished in ninth place last year, their lowest ever finish. Ravindra Jadeja was handed the captaincy role at the start of the 2022 campaign, but MS Dhoni was given the role back after a poor start to the season. CSK won just four of their group matches, but returning to Chennai this year could help boost that.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is not the easiest pitch to bat on due to its long boundaries. Scoring quick ones and twos will be key for the batting side while the winner of the toss will likely choose to bowl first.
