The Global T20 (GT20) League in Canada has returned in 2023. After success in the 2018 and 2019 editions, Covid-related delays have pushed the third edition of the tournament to this year.

The tournament started on 20 July and will run until 6 August, culminating in the final in Brampton.

At the time of writing, 13 matches have been completed with the Brampton Wolves sitting top of the table with three wins in five matches. The Mississauga Panthers are bottom, having lost all five of their matches.

Which Indian players are part of Global T20 Canada?

Given the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s strict restrictions on Indians playing in T20 leagues outside the country, most tournaments do not see a significant Indian contingent, if any at all.

In the Global T20 Canada, there are two Indians participating, both from Punjab; former India off-spinner and World Cup winner Harbhajan Singh and right-arm seamer Jaskaran Singh Buttar.

Harbhajan's is a name that requires no introduction; a bowler of supreme pedigree, he has enjoyed immense success across formats with a total of 780 first-class wickets and 235 T20 wickets to his name.

Harbhajan last played for India in 2016, and officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2021 before being nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022.

He has stepped out of retirement to participate in Global T20 Canada 2023, as part of the Brampton Wolves.

Who is Jaskaran Singh Buttar?

A right-arm seamer, Jaskaran made his first class debut for India A against Yorkshire in 2010. His highest-profile cricket came in the Indian Premier League, where he played six matches for the Deccan Chargers in 2010, picking up six wickets. He was also part of the Rising Pune Supergiant squad in 2016.

Jaskaran is at the Global T20 Canada 2023 in the Mississauga Panthers squad.

How have Indian players performed at Global T20 Canada?

Harbhajan had to pull out of the tournament just six days in due to unforeseen circumstances. He did not play a single match for Brampton.

Jaskaran has endured a torrid time with the bat, registering just four runs in five innings, including two ducks. With the ball, he has picked up three wickets in four innings.
