CSK vs RCB Cameroon Green and MS Dhoni
(BCCI/Sportspicz)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have made a late surge in the qualification race to the IPL 2024 knockout stages. After winning a solitary game in their first eight matches this season, the three-time finalists have made a strong case for themselves, to finish in the top four on the points table.

What makes it all-the-more interesting, is that they face arch-rivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home, in the final round of group stage games. RCB are placed fifth on the points table, with their next opponents - CSK - placed one above, on fourth.

CSK have won seven matches so far, as to RCB's six. It is a no-brainer that the match against CSK at the Chinnaswamy will be a must-win game for the hosts. Faf Du Plessis will have to take his side through to the knockouts, at his previous franchise's expense.

What will RCB have to do against CSK to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs?

IPL matches involving MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli would never have been this outragous, we bet! RCB will need to beat CSK in their final home game of IPL 2024, should they stand any chance of progressing through to the knockouts.

In what has been a complete rollercoaster of a season for the Bengaluru-based outfit, their fans wouldn't have hoped for a better position to be at, come the final home game of their group stage.

If everything else goes in their favour, and should RCB and CSK fight for a place in the IPL 2024 knockouts, come May 18, here is what the hosts would need to do to qualify for the playoffs.

After 13 rounds of group-stage games, RCB have an NRR of +0.387, while CSK have +0.528 NRR against their name.

Case 1: If they have to bat first, RCB need to win by 18 runs or more against CSK to overtake CSK's NRR.

Case 2: However, if RCB were to bowl first in their final group stage game against CSK, they will have to chase the set total in under 18.1 overs, i.e. with at least 11 balls to spare.

If the overs get reduced to the rains that are expected in Bengaluru on matchday, it will be an advantage for CSK as the target or the number of overs to restrict CSK get reduced considerably, making the task tougher for the home side. Let's take a look at what RCB would need to do in a reduced over scenario
