Dhruv Jurel has made headlines by matching former India captain MS Dhoni's long-standing record in the Duleep Trophy. Representing India A, the young wicketkeeper took seven catches in an innings.

The 23-year-old equaled the record held by Dhoni for the most catches taken by a wicketkeeper in a single innings of the tournament.

Dhruv Jurel matches MS Dhoni's record

Dhruv Jurel's seven catches in an innings have placed him alongside MS Dhoni in the Duleep Trophy record books. This feat mirrors Dhoni's record from the 2004-05 Duleep Trophy season when the legendary cricketer achieved the same number of catches while representing East Zone.

Jurel, playing for India A, matched this feat in their opening fixture against India B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He helped dismissing major players from India B, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Sarfaraz Khan.

His wicketkeeping helped India A restrict India B to 184 in their second innings. He, however, couldn’t contribute much with the bat. He scored just 2 runs in the first innings and a duck in the second.

Most catches in an innings in Duleep Trophy

Both Jurel and Dhoni now hold the joint record for the most catches by a wicketkeeper in an innings in the Duleep Trophy. Other wicketkeepers include Sunil Benjamin and Sadanand Viswanath, who each took six catches in different seasons.

Jurel's wicket-keeping have been complemented by his performances in Test cricket. He made his Test debut earlier this year in the home series against England, where he scored 190 runs at an average of 63.33 in three matches.

Although Jurel is currently behind Rishabh Pant in the pecking order for India's wicketkeeping role, his performances in domestic cricket and the Duleep Trophy will keep him in contention for future international call-ups. As the tournament progresses, Jurel will look to contribute more with the bat and strengthen his case for selection in India's upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia later this year.
