How many times have Delhi Capitals won the IPL? DC team history, list of seasons, best players image

Despite being one of the founding franchises of the Indian Premier League, success has continued to elude the Delhi Capitals.

The nearest miss came in 2020 when the Capitals – who lost their opening fixture of the season to Lucknow Super Giants – were beaten finalists but, by and large, the Delhi-based side have struggled to consistently challenge for the biggest prize.

Will IPL 2023 finally be the year the Capitals - previously known as the Delhi Daredevils - change that?

The Capitals have never won the title and have been finalists just once, in that aforementioned 2020 season, where they lost by five wickets to the Mumbai Indians in a tournament held in the UAE as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Delhi Capitals IPL history

A year after losing the final to Mumbai, the Capitals actually finished top of the league but failed to make the final after losing to the Chennai Super Kings and then the Kolkata Knight Riders in the qualifiers.

Last season, they finished just outside the playoffs in fifth, meaning their wait for a title was extended further.

They were semi-finalists in the first two iterations of the IPL in 2008 and 2009, while they also made the playoffs in 2012 and 2019.

Delhi Capitals' best players

Virender Sehwag was one of the most gifted and entertaining cricketers on the world stage prior to his retirement in 2015.

Sehwag was one of the original stars of the original Delhi Daredevils franchise and remained with the team until 2013. The right-hander finished his IPL career with 2,728 runs at a strike rate of 155.44.

England great Kevin Pietersen was a master of T20 cricket and also featured for the Daredevils with his innovative style and athletic fielding making him a big drawer for the competition.

David Warner is captain for the Capitals this season with Rishabh Pant still recovering after being involved in a car crash. The Australia top-order batsman is one of seven batters to score 1,000+ runs for the franchise.

Pant will be a big miss for the Capitals, the India star has been ruled out as he continues to rehab the knee injury sustained in the car crash he was involved in on New Year's Eve.
