After restricting the Men in Blue to 240 on a slowish surface, Australia chased down the target in 43 overs, courtesy of Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) to seal the team's sixth World Cup trophy.
The win in the final was Australia's ninth in a row, after they lost to India and South Africa in the first two matches of the tournament. Their victory was made all the more sweeter by defeating the host nation, who had won 10 in a row before the final.
'You need to perform when it matters' - David Warner responds to Mohammad Kaif
After the final, however, former India batter Mohammad Kaif stated on television that, "I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best team on paper."

His comments drew the ire of several fans and pundits, with many accusing Kaif of being an ungracious loser. The likes of former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Damien Martyn were amongst them.
On Wednesday, Australian opener David Warner also recorded his response to Kaif's statements on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote the following.
I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come 👍 https://t.co/DBDOCagG2r

Warner was not the only member of Australia's squad to respond to a pundit's comments, as leg-spinner Adam Zampa also posted an Instagram story mocking the harsh criticism levelled at the team by Michael Clarke earlier in the tournament.
