Delhi Capitals captain David Warner broke an interesting record on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The southpaw beat CSK captain MS Dhoni to become the highest runscorer against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Warner was tied with MS Dhoni going into this game. However, after scoring 22 off 14 balls yesterday, he is the new record-holder as the highest scorer against RCB.
Warner has, over the years, scored 861 runs in 22 innings against RCB. It includes one century and nine half-centuries.
Dhoni has registered 839 runs in 31 innings against RCB, scoring at an average of just below 42. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is in the third spot, with 785 runs in 29 innings.
How has Warner performed in IPL 2023?
David Warner has scored 330 runs in 10 innings in the ongoing IPL season. Warner’s strike rate of 120 has mirrored his side’s miserable form. However, Warner has registered four fifties to his name.
On Saturday, RCB put up a total of 181 runs for four wickets at the end of 20 overs. In reply, the Delhi openers Warner and Phil Salt went aggressive from the get-go. DC crossed the 50-run mark within four overs.
By the end of the batting powerplay, Salt was all over the opposition bowlers. Despite losing Warner, DC scored a mammoth 115 runs within ten overs, with Marsh reaching 22, while Salt was batting on 64.
Rilee Russouw joined the party after the dismissal of Marsh. Soon, Salt’s dream of a century was cut short by Karn Sharma in the sixteenth over. He was dismissed for 87 runs off 45 deliveries. Delhi Capitals chased the target down in 16.4 overs, with Rilee scoring a quickfire 35 off 22 balls.
