Glenn Maxwell went on a rampage against the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday as he hammered a match-winning knock of 106 runs, in just 44 balls.

His 40-ball century helped Maxwell break the record for the fastest century at the ODI Cricket World Cup as he guided Australia to a commanding total of 399 in 50 overs. In response, the Dutch team were bundled for just 90 runs which resulted in a significant win for Australia, with a margin of 309 runs.

Although he dealt with the Dutch bowlers with elan, the light & laser show irked Maxwell and he went on to call it a "horrible idea".

During the Netherlands' chase, an electrifying sound and light show were carried out in the middle of the match. This mid-match nightclub-style light show did not sit well with the all-rounder, who expressed his displeasure by covering his eyes with both hands. He criticized the light show, calling it "the dumbest idea" and noting that it could lead to "shocking headaches."

What did Glenn Maxwell say about the light show?

“Well, I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game,” Maxwell said after collecting his man-of-the-match award.

"And I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it’s the dumbest idea for cricketers. So, I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it’s a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players.”

However, David Warner hailed the visual extravaganza and mentioned that he "loved the light show" as it was something dedicated to the fans.
