Five thrilling matches played between CSK and MI in IPL
- 2010 IPL final: This was the first of the IPL finals played between the two rivals. Batting first, CSK managed to post a humble total of 168 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Chasing the total, MI got off to a strong start as Sachin Tendulkar scored 48. But once skipper Tendulkar was dismissed, MI's run chase slowed down. In the end, they fell short by 22 runs and CSK lifted their first of four IPL titles.
- 2013 IPL final: The final of the 2013 edition was another classic encounter between the two rivals. Winning the toss, MI decided to bat first and managed to score just 148 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Thanks to some extraordinary bowling by Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson, the CSK batting lineup crumbled except for Dhoni who fought a lone battle, scoring 63 off 45 balls. MI clinched the tie by 23 runs to win their maiden IPL title.
- IPL 2021 league stage: This was a run fest. During the league stage game of IPL 2021, Faf du Plessis (50) and Moeen Ali (58) powered CSK to 218/4 in 20 overs. While chasing, MI faltered at the beginning and were 81/3 at one point but thanks to Kieron Pollard's fiery innings of 87 off 37 balls, MI managed to chase down the total.
- IPL 2019 final: Batting first, MI posted a humble total of 149/8 in 20 overs. CSK batters too failed to deliver on the grand stage, except for Shane Watson who scored 80 off 59 balls. The Australian almost guided his time to glory only to fall short in the final over as he was run out. In the end, MI clinched their fourth IPL title as they won the tie by one run.
- IPL 2018 league stage: In the 2018 season opener, CSK won a thriller against their rivals. MI, batting first, posted 165/4 in 20 overs. The Mumbai team began their defence well and reduced CSK to 84/6. That's when Dwayne Bravo stepped in. The West Indian all-rounder plundered 68 off 30 balls as CSK chased down the total with one ball to spare.
