Skipper Shakib Al Hasan (82) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (90) were among the peak of the batsmen as Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup on Monday in New Delhi.
Batting first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 279 runs with Chareeth Asalanka scoring a brilliant hundred.
There was a controversial moment in the game as well when veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews was dismissed without facing a single due to 'timed out'. In the 25th over of the first innings, Sadeera Samarawickrama was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan when he hit the ball straight down the throat of the midwicket fielder to leave Sri Lanka 135/4.
Angelo Mathews was due to come in to bat next, but after he arrived on the ground, his helmet strap snapped and he pulled out before facing a ball. While asking for a replacement helmet, Bangladesh appealed for him to be given out 'timed out', and the umpires eventually agreed. Mathews was given out and sent back.
Later, Bangladesh chased down the total in 41 overs with Shanto scoring 90 off 101 balls and Shakib hitting 82 off 65 deliveries.
