The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to send both of their men's and women's to Asian Games 2023, marking their debut in the tournament.
Although cricket was a medal sport in the 2010 Guangzhou and 2014 Incheon Asian Games, it was not amongst the events in 2018.

While the matches in the men's category will begin for September 27, India have been seeded directly into the quarterfinals along with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and will start their campaign on October 3.
Eleven other teams have been divided into four groups, out of which only four will proceed to the next round.
The women's event consists of only eight teams. Here as well, India are put straight into the quarterfinals alongside the other Asian cricket giants. The remaining four sides are divided into two groups.
All the matches will be played at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field in the T20 format.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead a young Indian unit in the competition. Yashasvi Jaiswal will open with him. Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh form the middle-order, while Jitesh Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh are the designated wicket-keepers.
Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube and Shahbaz Ahmed fill in the all-rounder's category. Ravi Bishnoi is the main spinner, while Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep are picked as the fast-bowlers.
