India took on Pakistan in their first match of the Asia Cup in Pallekele on Saturday, in what promised to be a high-quality encounter.

However, rain had the final say as the second innings was washed out, after India had been bowled out for 266 in the first innings thanks to half-centuries from Ishan Kishan (82) and Hardik Pandya (87).

Before the pair's 138-run partnership for the fifth wicket, India had been sturggling at 66/4, and many fans were unhappy with the performance of the Indian top-order.

Shortly after the match was called off, the following post began doing the rounds on social media, of what Sunil Gavaskar had apparently said to a media house.

 

"Completely fabricated statement attributed to my father" - Rohan Gavaskar

Early on Monday morning, Gavaskar's son Rohan, also a former India player, took to Twitter to call out the statement as false, calling it a "completely fabricated statement attributed to my father" and saying that "someone is just trying to create mischief".

 

Adding to his initial statement, Rohan Gavaskar also said that his father is under contract with another media house and not the media firm in question.

When is Team India's next match?

India will be in action in their second match of the Asia Cup later today, as they play Nepal in Pallekele. A win for either side will secure their qualification for the Super 4 stage of the tournament. The match will start at 3pm IST.
