Australian star all-rounder, Cameron Green with his lower back issues that he faced in England during the whit-ball series is set to miss the upcoming Australian home season as he has opted to go for surgery.
The Western Australian player last played during the second ODI of the five-match series against England at Chester-le-Street where he scored 42(49) and took 2/45, dismissing Will Jacks and Jamie Smith.
What happened to Cameron Green?
The 25-year-old, during the five-match series against England, faced some back issues and after medical tests, it turned out to be his fifth stress fracture that ruled him out of the remainder of the series.
It was announced that he will be undergoing a surgery as a part of the ongoing treatment.
Will Cameron Green miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
As Green opts for surgery for his persistent lower back issues, the 6'5" all-rounder is set to miss the whole Aussie summer, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which begins on November 22. He will be missing almost 6 months of action and is unlikely to take part in the ICC Champions Trophy as well.
Green had an option to just rehab without surgery and make it to the Test squad just in time but he couldn't have bowled in the series, hence, he decided to go with the best option of surgery and get back to his 100%.
How will RCB retain players after Cameron Green's injury?
As Green is set to be ruled out for six months, the tentative date for his return is around late in March, however, as of now, his participation in the IPL is still doubtful. So, the Bengaluru-based franchise could still take a punt on him and retain him with long-term plans to make him a core member of the squad.
If RCB opts not to take the risk, they can also shift their focus to their other retentions like Will Jacks, Yash Dayal, Mohammad Siraj, Glenn Maxwell and maybe even the ageing Faf du Plessis being the other options to retain alongside the sure-shot retention of Virat Kohli.
With October 31 being the deadline for submission of retentions, it would be interesting to see how RCB goes about their business as they look to build a new core.
