On Wednesday, Akash Madhwal (Mumbai Indians) created history in the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Madhwal took a fifer (5/5 in 3.3 overs) in a crunch eliminator encounter to make sure his side progressed to the Qualifier 2. Courtesy of his heroics with the ball, MI thrashed LSG to win by a margin of 81 runs. It is also the best bowling figure by an Indian in a knockout match.

By doing so, the 29-year-old pacer also has entered into an elite list of Indian bowlers. He matched the figures of the Veteran-Spinner Anil Kumble (5/5 in 3.1 overs) for the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in the IPL.

Anil Kumble: The leg-spinner cast his best spell against Rajasthan Royals in 2009 while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. His figures of 5/5 in 3.1 overs ensured that the opposition got bundled out for 58 runs. This was the lowest total in an IPL inning (at the time). It is also the second-lowest total to date.

Akash Madhwal: The Mumbai Indians pacer has been going places after his recent performances in his debut season in the IPL. Madhwal matched Kumble’s figures of 5/5 in 3.3 overs and helped his side cruise past LSG into Qualifier 2.

Jasprit Bumrah: The superstar pacer of Mumbai Indians cut through the KKR batting order in the 2022 edition. Bumrah scalped the likes of Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine finishing with figures of 5/10 in four overs. However, his effort went in vain as MI lost the match at the DY Patil Stadium.

Ishant Sharma: The right-arm pacer showed his heroics while playing for the Deccan Chargers (DC) in 2011. In the match against Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK), Ishant shined brightest as he picked five wickets, conceding 12 runs in just three overs. Jayawadane, Parthiv Patel, and Brad Hodge fell to his prey.
