After choosing to bowl first, Australia did well to restrict India to 240 after the home side scored 80/2 in their first 10 overs. Captain Pat Cummins played a crucial role, drying up the flow of runs and picking up the wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.

In reply, the Aussies were led by opener Travis Head's blistering century (137) to get over the line by six wickets, with Marnus Labuschagne (58*) also playing his part in Australia lifting their sixth World Cup trophy.
