Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has taken a brutal dig at the Bangladesh cricket team, specifically targeting captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto, following their disappointing Test series against India.

The former cricketer criticized Shanto and his team for being overly confident ahead of the series, drawing a stark contrast between their performance against India and their recent Test matches against Pakistan.

What did Basit Ali say about Bangladesh’s overconfidence?

Basit Ali, never one to shy away from making bold statements, aimed his comments at Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto for his remarks ahead of the Test series against India.

The former Pakistani cricketer mentioned that their team may have underestimated the Indian side, thinking they would be as easy to beat as Pakistan.

"Shanto had said Bangladesh would beat India 2-0. Maybe he thought that they were facing Pakistan again," said Basit.

The former cricketer pointed out the stark difference between Pakistan and Indian Cricket. He said that while Bangladesh managed to stretch the Test series against Pakistan to the last day, India wrapped up matches in just two days. 

"It is painful to say that Bangladesh's Tests against Pakistan went till the last day and India finished it in two days. This shows you the difference between India and Pakistan. This is the reality and you must accept it," he added.

How did Bangladesh perform against India?

Bangladesh’s performance against India was a far cry from what Shanto promised before the series began. The Tigers suffered heavy defeats in Chennai and Kanpur, both of which exposed their weaknesses against top-ranked teams.

They showcased a few competitive moments during the Chennai Test; however, their performance in the second Test was abysmal. Rain interruptions could only temporarily delay the inevitable, as India won the Kanpur Test inside two and a half days after significant washouts on Days 2 and 3.
