'Bad shot to get out' - Yuvraj Singh warns Shubman Gill ahead of Asia Cup final image

On Friday, India took on Bangladesh in the final match of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup. The match was inconsequential with regards to the tournament, with India having already qualified for the final while Bangladesh were already knocked out.

Chasing a competitive 266 in a game where both sides made wholesale changes, India finally fell short by 6 runs as No. 10 Mohammed Shami was run out off the penultimate ball of the innings.

Earlier, India had managed to get close to Bangladesh's score thanks to Axar Patel's aggressive 42 down the order, and Shubman Gill's superb century (121), the youngster's fifth three-figure score in just 32 innings in the 50-over format for India.

After the match, Gill posted the following on his Instagram profile.

 

In response to the post, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh commented, "Bad shot to get out! Could have won the game single handed! but nonetheless well played 👏".

Gill's dismissal came about in the 44th over of India's chase. With the team already 6 wickets down and needing a further 52 runs off 39 balls, he attempted to loft spinner Mahedi Hassan over long-off for, having hit a six off the previous ball as well.

He ended up flat-batting his shot and hitting it straight to Towhid Hridoy on the boundary line. Gill later admitted that the shot had been a miscalculation on his part and a bit more patience might have enabled him to see India over the line.

When is Team India's next match?

India will be in action later on Sunday, as they take on Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup.
