'He'll gladly play a maiden over against you' - Babar Azam's father replies to Mohammad Asif after 'insulting' remark image

The cricket world on Saturday was engulfed with Mohammad Asif's sensational claims about the Pakistan team and its captain on an X space.

On Friday night, Asif had no filter on his mouth while taking in a space on X as he mainly targeted Babar Azam, his captaincy and his style of play.

Speaking of how he played a big role in Babar's selection, he downplayed the batter by saying that even now he can bowl a maiden against him in T20 cricket.

"I selected Babar Azam in the trials after he faced two balls only, you can ask his father that I picked Babar in ZTBL trials. I rate highly, he is one of the best batters in the country but he plays dots in the power-play and puts pressure on Rizwan," Asif said in an X space.

"I can bowl a maiden over to Babar Azam in T20 cricket even today, he cannot hit the ball if you bowl good deliveries to him," he added.

Babar Azam's father retorts to Mohammad Asif

Although Babar has not replied to Asif, his father Azam Siddiqui hit back at the former Pakistan pacer.

Narrating an anecdote, Siddiqui did accept that Asif advocated for Babar and shared the details of events that to led to him doing this.

As Siddiqui disclosed, Babar had hit Asif for 11 boundaries in the course of his 84-run knock in a club match. However, Asif eventually got him out.

Babar then met Asif in the ZTBL bank trials at the National Academy. This is where Asif went to the bank administration and said, "Why are you hesitating with him? He hit me for 11 fours. Note down his name and include him in the bank team; he will prove to be an asset for you." 

Further, Siddiqui cited upon Asif's next statement on Babar, stating that:

"Dear Mr. Mohammad Asif, every individual is responsible for their actions. If such a time comes, Babar will gladly play a maiden over against you in order to show you respect."

What next for Pakistan?

Babar and Co. are in the midst of a lot of turmoil after their Asia Cup exit. Their next assignment happens to be in India where the ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled.
