The leadership scenario in Pakistan cricket has taken another sharp turn as Babar Azam recently stepped down from the role of white-ball captain. The sudden resignation has left the PCB in search of a new captain to lead the team in the limited-overs format.
With no clear frontrunner, former Pakistan cricketer Mudassar Nazar has weighed in on the situation, suggesting that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan could be the next choice for the job.

Why is Mudassar Nazar backing Mohammad Rizwan as captain?
Mudassar Nazar, in a conversation with Cricket Pakistan, revealed that the PCB may not have many viable options left. He noted that the absence of suitable alternatives might force the board to appoint the seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman.
"Right now, they don't have any choice left. They've tried everyone except Rizwan. They'll have to make Rizwan the captain. I don't think the inner circle and top management are very happy with Rizwan, but they’ll be forced to choose him," stated Nazar.
Nazar further emphasized the need for an experienced player to take charge, arguing that picking an inexperienced captain would repeat the mistakes made during Babar Azam’s tenure.
"Otherwise, if they go for a younger player, it will turn into the same situation as with Babar Azam. It's better to make a senior player the captain and then groom someone under him. In my opinion, it would be better for Pakistan to make Rizwan the captain for all three formats," he added.
Who are the contenders for Pakistan's white-ball captaincy?
While Mohammad Rizwan is Mudassar Nazar’s top pick, he is not the only candidate in the fray. Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi and a few other names like Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, and Fakhar Zaman are also being considered for the role.
Shaheen Afridi’s brief stint as T20I captain had ended abruptly, adding to the confusion around Pakistan’s leadership choices.
