Babar Azam has hit back at his critics who have given him the stick for long over his slow strike rate issue. Azam is not the most hard-hitting batter in world cricket or the most aggressive one. 

He prefers to play the anchor role for his teams, be it in international cricket or franchise tournaments. The Pakistan skipper has been heavily criticised for playing with a strike-rate which is considered below-par for T20 cricket. 

Babar Azam was called upon by media house Zalmi TV for a podcast. The Pakistan skipper talked about his strike rate and his playing style for Pakistan.

What did Babar Azam say about the evolving style of cricket?

Babar Azam called cricket 'a fast game'. He confessed how every player should evolve his own game. The 29-year-old claimed that he would not please anyone, and will always target to win the game.

The cricket is becoming a fast game. You need to evolve with the game. You do not have to please your fans or people. I cannot please people. I always look to go for the win. I need to build the innings. Nowadays, there is this "Strike Rate"  trend among fans and spectators, Babar Azam told Zalmi TV.

How did Babar Azam respond to his critics about "Strike Rate"?

Babar Azam expressed his acquaintance with people criticising his strike rate. He stated how every game needs to be played according to the 'situation'. 

He said,

Strike Rate is a different story. You win the match, and everything else will be taken care of. My game is based out of cricketing shots. The main thing that matters is the situation. 

He added, 

People have a lot of problem with my strike rate. I have different batting style and my preference is to win matches for Pakistan, Azam concluded.
