Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer could miss out on being part of the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in August-September.
Iyer, who suffered an injury during the Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia back in February, underwent back surgery in April in London. He missed half of the Test series against Australia and was not part of the Indian team in the ODI series as well.

He had also pulled out of the IPL 2023 as Nitish Rana replaced him as the make-shift captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this season.
Iyer also missed out on playing the World Test Championship final against Australia in London earlier this month which India lost.
After missing a fair bit of cricket in 2023, the team management was expecting him to recover ahead of the two big ticket competitions - the Asia Cup and the 2023 World Cup.

But as per Times of India, Iyer is unlikely to regain match fitness ahead of the Asia Cup.
TOI quoted a source who said,
Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble.
The Asia Cup 2023 will be held in a 'hybrid model' which will see Pakistan and Sri Lanka jointly host the competition. Pakistan will play their home games in their own country while the remaining matches will be held in Sri Lanka.
