Arshin Kulkarni has become a sensation in the Indian households, after his emphatic knock against the United States of America (USA) at the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup. The 18-year-old scored a magnificent century off his blade, as India remained unbeaten in the group stages of the ICC event.

The past few months have been life-changing for Arshin, we'd say. Months after bagging an IPL contract, Arshin has now caught the limelight while playing for his country. Arshin has represented Maharashtra at the U-19 level, and has recently made his debut for the senior team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Who is Arshin Kulkarni?

Arshin Kulkarni was born in Solapur, Maharashtra. Born to a family of doctors, Kulkarni had no pressure from his parents. His parents are both in the medical profession, but have supported their 18-year-old son all along the way, to pursue his cricketing dream.

Kulkarni has represented Maharashtra at the U-19 level, and has recently made his debut for the senior team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He played six matches at the SMAT 2023, scoring 121 runs, at a strike rate of over 160. He also proved his worth as a bowler, bagging four wickets in the tournament.

What is Arshin Kulkarni's bowling & and batting style?

Arshin Kulkarni is a right-handed opening batsman. He has played age-group levels for Maharashtra. His exploits in the domestic circuit for Maharashtra earned him a berth at the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa. Arshin has scored 147 runs and bagged one wicket in three innings at the tournament so far.

 

Chaturvedi is primarily a batter. However, he is more than a handy bowler, having proved his worth at the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2023 for his state. He is a right-arm pacer, who has bowled in the powerplay overs in the T20 format.

When did Arshin Kulkarni start his cricket coaching?

Arshin Kulkarni started his cricket coaching at the Cadence Cricket Academy in Pune in 2017. Hailing primarily from Solapur, Arshin has been staying with his maternal grandfather in a rented apartment in Pune since. At Cadence, Kulkarni was coached under the guidance of former Maharashtra skipper, Nikhil Paradkar. 

To Kulkarni's fortune, Paradkar was also the batting coach of the Maharashtra U19 team, of which Arshin has been a vital cog. He was a regular for his state team since the U-14 level.

In an interview with the Times of India, Paradkar recently called Arshin as the complete package - someone who bats and bowls at the top, and could clear the infield at will.

Which IPL team does Arshin Kulkarni play for?

Arshin Kulkarni is yet to make his IPL debut. However, Kulkarni was snapped up by the Lucknow Super Giants at the IPL 2024 auction. The LSG paid the base price of 20 Lakhs to acquire his services - a bargain, right!

How did Arshin Kulkarni perform in the U19 World Cup match vs USA?

Arshin Kulkarni scored a match-winning knock for the India U19s, as they leapfrogged USA to enter the knockout rounds. In the last group stage game, India scored a whopping total of 326 runs, batting first. Kulkarni was the torchbearer for India, as they secured a 201-run win in Bloemfontein. 

Kulkarni scored an impressive century, guiding his team to a huge total. The Maharashtra all-rounder scored a 108-run knock, facing 118 deliveries. He scored eight boundaries and three sixes off his blade against the USA.

What did Hardik Pandya say to Arshin Kulkarni after the  match vs USA?

Hardik Pandya, who happens to be Kulkarni's cricketing idol, complimented the youngster on his fantastic knock against the United States. Pandya congratulated the 18-year-old for his excellent performance, and also joked about the choice of his jersey number. Both Arshin and Hardik wear the same jersey number on their backs - 33.
