All-rounder Arjun Tendulkar is believed to have been selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its three-week camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru following a good start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with the Mumbai Indians (MI).

One of the 20 potential all-rounders chosen for the BCCI camp is Arjun Tendulkar, the son of world-renowned former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

BCCI, according to PTI, is looking for young, multi-talented athletes who could advance quickly to the top level. The NCA is therefore planning to organise the camp.

BCCI wants to develop players for all formats

According to the report, the players were chosen by the senior national selection committee, which is led by caretaker Shiv Sunder Das, based on their performance and potential.

“There is an Emerging Asia Cup (U-23) also later this year and BCCI is looking at potential youngsters. The all-rounders camp is an idea of NCA’s head of cricket VVS Laxman to ensure that we develop a lot of multi-skilled players across formats,” a source from the board was quoted as saying by the agency.

“Not everyone summoned for camp is a pure all-rounder. Some are batting all-rounders and some are the opposite. The idea is to tap the potential and help them upgrade their skills suitably for transition to next grade,” the source added.

Which other players will be a part of the camp?

Apart from Tendulkar, notable names including Chetan Sakariya, Abhishek Sharma, and Harshit Rana have also been called.

Both Sharma, a left-handed all-rounder who opens the batting for IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Sakariya, a left-arm bowler and a handy batsman down the order from Saurashtra who played for India in 2021, have been called up.

Even Mohit Redkar, Manav Suthar, and Divij Mehra have been called up.

Harshit Rana was previously chosen as a net bowler for the senior Indian team.

"Harshit was in fact summoned as net bowler with senior Indian team to UK for WTC finals. Accordingly his visa and travel documents were prepared but we saw Yarra Prithviraj of Andhra being sent. But it's good that national selectors are seriously considering his potential. He is also a handy batter, who can only get better if he works on his batting," a senior DDCA official said.
