On Sunday, 19 November, Australia took on India in the final of the 2023 World Cup in Ahmedabad.

Bowling first, the visiting side did well to restrict India to 240, after the Men in Blue scored 80/2 in the first 10 overs. Captain Pat Cummins was exceptional in the field with his tactics, and even picked up the wicket of Virat Kohli.

In reply, opener Travis Head smashed his way to 137, leading the way to a 6-wicket Australian win in 43 overs. The win meant the side from Down Under lifted their sixth World Cup title overall, and their fourth since the turn of the century.

'We will be laughable' - Adam Zampa hits back at Michael Clarke's harsh criticism

Basking in the glory of the win, Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa took to Instagram to hit back at some harsh words from former skipper Michael Clarke. After Australia lost their first two matches of the tournament to India and South Africa, Clarke had said,

I’m more worried about the subcontinent teams... if we’re getting shown up like that against South Africa, the spin in the subcontinent teams... we’ll be laughable. If we’re not careful the conversation we’ve been having for the last three weeks about the Wallabies (Australia's rugby team), in two weeks’ time we’ll be having that about Australian cricket.

After this, however, the team went on to win nine straight matches to lift the World Cup, with the spinner himself finishing with 23 wickets, the second-highest tally in the tournament. Zampa posted the quote in its entirety on his Instagram story last night, adding a few laughing emojis signalling what he thought of Clarke's words.

This is not the first time Zampa has done this, however. After Australia lifted the T20 World Cup title in 2021, he posted the following on his Instagram account, mocking the words of former England captain Michael Vaughan in exactly the same fashion.
