The Sunrisers Hyderabad have struggled to impact the Indian Premier League finals race over the past two years but will be hoping the inclusions of a few rising stars of the game might lift their fans spirits.

One of the newer clubs in the competition, the Sunrisers have emerged from the embers of the Deccan Chargers after they were terminated for breaching contract terms in 2012. The new franchise made their debut in the 2013 edition.

The newly formed Sunrisers retained 20 of the fallen Chargers personal including Kumar Sangakkara and Quinton De Kock to fill the void.

Here, Sporting News looks at all you need to know about Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2023.

Having been formed in 2013, the Sunrisers were crowned champions for the first time three years later when they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs in a thrilling final.

Two years later, Sunrisers were back in the showpiece fixture but were defeated by eight wickets by the Chennai Super Kings.

However, the last two seasons have been a real disappointment, with the Sunrisers finishing bottom of the pile in 2021, then eighth in an expanded 10-franchise tournament last year.

The Sunrisers opted to make changes after the disappointment of 2022, with West Indies legend Brian Lara coming in as head coach to replace Tom Moody.

One of Lara's first tasks was to appoint Aiden Markram as captain after the Sunrisers opted not to retain New Zealand star Kane Williamson.

A refreshed-looking Sunrisers side have acquired England stars Harry Brook and Adil Rashid, with West Indies power-hitter Nicholas Pooran joining Williamson on the released list.

Brook, adept in all formats, has made a lightning start to Test cricket – averaging 80 with bat in hand through his first six Tests, which includes four hundreds.

Rashid, meanwhile, has proven to be one of the great T20 bowlers, performing at his best all over the world.

Heinrich Klaasen gets another shot at the IPL having previously represented the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The South African brings experience on the domestic and international T20 stages.

The Sunrisers also retained Kiwi all-rounder Glenn Phillips from the 2022 season and Afghan Fazalhaq Farooqi to their bowling stocks.
